Weight gain or extreme weight loss usually happens because we have developed bad eating habits and a poor self-perception. We over-eat or we eat to gain comfort or to relieve boredom or we control what we eat excessively and lose an unhealthy amount of weight. Emotional Freedom Technique raises awareness of your feelings and emotions. Therefore, this technique can help you learn what triggers your poor eating habits. When you feel a snack attack coming on or you feel guilty about eating something, if you know how to use the emotional freedom technique you are then better prepared to decide whether you are really hungry and therefore need to eat or whether the eating would be done purely to mask some other emotion. If the latter is the case, you definitely havent got emotional freedom, have you? Rather, youre a slave to your emotion which dictate your eating and your weight.

The emotional freedom technique is easy to learn and to use and because it is self-administered, its a therapy which can be carried with you wherever you go and you can use it as part of a daily affirmation of your desire and ability to lose weight as well as when you feel your willpower wavering and you think you may eat in a way which you no longer wish to.

A huge part of why people over-eat is the emotional aspects. All of these emotional concerns can be addressed by the emotional freedom technique which is why it can rightly be called a holistic approach to therapy.

Whenever you feel yourself about to slip back into an old, undesirable habit, such as over-eating or starving yourself you should do a quick round of EFT. Begin this therapy with a few deep breaths and an affirming message about what you want to happen, such as I do not really need that doughnut.

The round of emotional freedom technique can take less than thirty seconds but it can easily be enough to break your thoughts away from the unhealthy snack you wanted and put you back on the right track towards healthy weight loss. It can also help you to block out negative thoughts which are stopping you eating, at the other extreme.

Your set-up phrase at the beginning if an EFT session can be something like:

Even though I am over-weight, I completely accept myself.

This is important because keeping a positive attitude towards oneself is very important. Its important for two reasons: because negative emotions block the energy flow and also because to have a positive attitude towards yourself increases your motivation because you feel you are worthy and capable of gaining control of your weight.

Try to think what it is that stops you losing the weight that you want to lose. Then think of a positive statement that asserts that you can get over this problem, like:

I am worthy of self-love and I dont need to eat to comfort myself.

Repeat this affirmation to yourself throughout your EFT tapping routine. The tapping will disrupt your habitual neuro-pathway and you will find that the next time you are about to fall prey to this negative thinking or behaviour, your thoughts will be disrupted and you will find it easier to resist temptation or to resist falling prey to the negativity which makes you eat.

Here is the tapping routine which you should follow for any emotional freedom technique healing. You should tap each of these points on the meridians seven times, then complete the whole tapping routine again, all the while repeating your affirmation statement that you can overcome whatever it is that you want to address.

Begin on the inside corner of your eye, near your nose. Tap seven times. Move on to the outside corner of your eye and again tap seven times; in fact, tap seven times on each of the following points: under your eyes, then under your nose; next tap your chin seven times. Next tap seven times just below your collarbone; lastly, tap seven times under your arm, a place about a hands-with down from the armpit, where a womans bra strap usually is.

The tapping should be gentle, but hard enough to notice. Remember to repeat your affirmation sentence to yourself, saying what you will change, as you tap in each place. Pretty soon, you should have your eating and weight under control.
