We’ve all experienced anxiety at some time: a presentation at work, running into someone we’d rather not see, or boarding an airplane when we hate flying. Some people, however, suffer from anxiety on a long term basis, and it can seriously and negatively impact upon a person’s life.

The emotional freedom technique, or EFT, is a way to release unwanted feelings and focus on getting past negativity by stimulating energy meridian points all over the body. It can help with physical and emotional pain, and allow individuals to move ahead from past experiences that are standing in the way of emotional clarity.

EFT has been used to treat many different things: everything from the common cold to serious depression. Many people have found relief from anxiety as well, and EFT is used to relieve short term and long term symptoms and effects of anxiety. As well as aiding with overall anxiety, people can use EFT to alleviate the immediate symptoms of an anxiety attack, which may come in the form of a rapid heartbeat, sweaty hands, extreme fear, and a feeling of panic. A lot of long term anxiety sufferers are surprised when they use EFT it often eases anxiety with just one or two uses.

The first step of stopping an anxiety attack with EFT is reversing the though process. Rather than thinking I am foolish and stupid for thinking that, you replace these negative thoughts with more positive affirmations, such as I accept that I have limitations, but I love myself. These phrases are repeated while performing the EFT taps and rubs that will most likely bring you relief.

There is a specific routine when it comes to EFT for anxiety. When you feel an anxiety attack coming on, or these negative thoughts begin to cause you feelings of stress, you must really recognize these feelings, no matter how uncomfortable they are. You use the physical symptoms of your anxiety to begin to formulate a positive statement: Even though I am dizzy and scared, you agree to try EFT and work through the negative feelings. While repeating self-affirming phrases, you will perform a series of EFT tapping over your facial area and hands.

EFT has been known to help people who have previously tried therapy, medication, and meditation to achieve freedom from anxiety. The main idea is to focus on the uncomfortable feeling or situation, and train your mind to think about it differently with the taps and rubs used in EFT. It is and effective therapy in treating healing and depression as well.

You can visit a trained EFT professional, who can greatly help with the symptoms of anxiety through EFT therapy. Or, if you can’t afford an EFT coach, you can read books on EFT and visit EFT websites to learn the techniques yourself. Be patient with EFT for many people, it works right away, while others need to repeat the EFT techniques more than once to see positive results. Once you’ve learned the basics, you can use EFT on a regular basis as you see fit: once a day for panic attacks, or less and less as you find your anxiety symptoms fade away which they will!
